It is a festival of unity, happiness, and love. Why is Holi Celebrated? Holi is celebrated because of the legend of Prahlad and Holika . According to Hindu mythology, King Hiranyakashyap was a powerful but arrogant ruler who wanted everyone to worship him. However, his son Prahlad was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu .
