Class 8 practical

Aim: To demonstrate the formation of multiple images by using two plane mirrors.

Aim: To demonstrate the formation of multiple images by using two plane mirrors.

Material required: Two mirror, a sheet of white paper, a ball and a tape.

Procedure:
1. Join the two plane mirrors with the tape  to make a hinge .
2. Now place them vertically on the sheet of paper so that mirror make an angle of 90° .
3. Place the candle in between the mirrors and observe the number of images formed.
4. Now, change the angle between the mirrors to 120° and again record the number of images formed.
5. Repeat the activity for angles 45°, 60°, and 180° and record the number of images in each case

Observations: you will observe that the number of images formed increases as the angle between mirrors is reduced. You can calculate the number of images formed by the given formula _
Number of images=(360/n) -1
Wherr n is the angle between the two mirrors.
Hence, when angle was 90°, then
Number of images =(360/90) - 1= 4-1=3
When angle was 45°, then
Number of images =( 360/45)-1=8-1=7 and soon

Now , place the mirrors parallel to each other , In this case , the angle between them will be zero .
Hence, number of images=(360/0) -1= infinite -1=infinite

So, in this case ,you will find infinite number if images.

Questions from potentiometer

Potentiometer Questions from potentiometer Q1. Why is a potentiometer preferred over a voltmeter for measuring the emf of a cell? Ans. Potentiometer work on null method, It does not draw any current from the cell thus there there is no potential drop due to the internal resistance of the cell. It measures the potential difference in an open circuit which is equal to the actual EMF of the cell. It is very accurate device. On the other hand, voltmeter draw small current from the cell for its operation. So it measures terminal potential difference in a closed circuit which is less than EMF of the cell Q2. The sensitivity of a potentiometer increases with increase in length of its wire. Explain why? Ans. When the length of the wire increases the fall of potential per unit length of the wire become smaller (i.e potential gradient K= V/L ). Hence even a small potential difference can be measured. Q3. Sometime the balance point in the potentiometer may not be obtained on the wire ...
